Thoughts on the Upcoming Birthday

It’s nearly here…my baby’s first birthday!  I have been thinking about this day for a long time.  Like a really long time.  There was a point a while back that I never thought I’d be celebrating the first birthday of another baby.  The road to conceiving my amazing little man was long, painful and difficult…but that’s a story for another time.  So this day for me is an amazing celebration.  Of course you say, who wouldn’t be celebrating their baby’s first birthday?!  But for me it is actually so much more than that.It is a beautiful reminder at just how much he was wanted and truly how much of a miracle every child is.  You know your kids are a blessing but the message becomes so much more powerful when the road is hard to get there.  While the journey was awful and not one that I’d ever wish to repeat, I am grateful that it gave me an entirely new perspective on just how amazing children really are.

So here we are (almost…its this Thursday!) – I have held this baby boy in my arms every day for the past year.  I’ve loved him and cared for him.  I’ve taught him and learned from him.  I’ve remembered what life is like with a tiny one in the mix.  I have experienced tremendous joy in his birth and subsequent times watching him bond with big sister and big brother.  I’ve had moments of terror.  But more than anything, he has been such a light to this family.  It is so clear, he was always meant to be here.  He fits into our puzzle perfectly.

I have worried that his birthday would make me sad.  He is growing up so fast after all (don’t they always?).  But rather than fighting the inevitable, I am working on living in the moment and being as present as I possibly can in what he is doing each and every day.  I’m trying not to worry about how fast it’s speeding by.  So rather than being sad, I am thrilled.  We get to celebrate this little man who has changed our lives.  We get to cheer him on as he is starting to stand on his own or as he said he first words.  I get to revel in the relationships he is building with his siblings and seeing how that is changing and shaping them as individuals.  It is so amazing!!!

Cute First 4th of July Onesie for my ‘lil Firecracker

Cute First 4th of July Onesie for my ‘lil Firecracker

Happy 4th of July everyone!  This is the last first holiday for my baby and Daddy wanted him to have a special onesie to celebrate.  Of course, I wanted it to be personalized so I used my Cricut Explore to whip up this adorable baby onesie.

I had all of the heat transfer vinyl on hand except for the red glitter that my dear husband picked up for me today at Michaels. (Here is a link to one of my favorite brands I usually purchase on Amazon when I’m not doing a last minute project)

Here is the finished onesie

I added the date to the back of his onesie.

Sporting his new onesie at our friends BBQ.

Love this little guy!!

Super Simple Shower Cleaner

Super Simple Shower Cleaner

Anything that makes cleaning easier is right up my alley.  Make it less expensive with items you already have in the house and you can sign me up.  This really simple and very effective shower cleaner is one of my favorite magic cleaning tricks.

I was looking for an effective way to clean the mildew that had accumulated in my shower and came up with an awesome formula that costs pennies to make.  This one is too good to keep to myself so let me share my secret (and please don’t judge me for how dirty it was before! But at least I’m cleaning it now, right?)…

I promised simple.  This is it.  You only need 3 things and something to mix it in and with.

Supply List

Directions

  1. Pour a good amount of baking soda in a bowl
  2. Carefully pour in bleach (I didn’t measure – I just poured and then mixed and added until I had a thick paste).
  3. Slowly and carefully mix until you get the consistency of a thick paste.

Here is the ugliness before

  1. VERY IMPORTANT: Put on Gloves!! I didn’t and ended up with a chemical burn on 3 of my fingers and it doesn’t feel good!
  2. Apply the paste to the areas you can to clean in your shower. It works best on silicone caulking but can be used on other surfaces (be sure to test on a small area so you know it will be safe for your particular shower).

Ugh!  SO Gross!!  I know!  If it didn’t look so much better after I was done, I would not be showing you this disgusting shower!!

The secret

cover with plastic wrap to keep your paste moist.
And then you wait.  I don’t think you have to wait as long as I did but I wanted to make sure it was good and clean.  I let the paste sit for a good 2-3 hours before checking on it.  Once it looks good, just wash off with warm water.  No scrubbing required!

And here is the after.  Doesn’t it look SO much better?

And that’s it!  SO simple.  I’ve used this process a few times now whenever my shower starts to look bad again and it makes me so happy.  It’s such a simple process with a powerful outcome and I love it!  I hope it helps you have a cleaner shower too!
