First Birthday Smash Cake

First Birthday Smash Cake

First birthdays are always so much fun.  The guest of honor is in that amazing phase between being a baby and moving into toddlerhood.  Their personality is starting to shine.  For mom and dad, it is a gigantic milestone on their parenthood journey.  When it comes to the party, it can difficult to decide if you want to throw a huge party…they only turn 1 once!  Or doing something small…they’ll never remember the party anyway!  I would say that whatever path you choose, have fun with it and don’t forget to take a ton of pictures.

We had so much fun celebrating our youngest’s first birthday!  We recently had a big party to celebrate his baptism so comparatively, his birthday celebration was relatively low key.  However, I couldn’t resist the temptation to make it just a little bit crafty.  I stuck to a few simple projects and am in love with how everything turned out.  After throwing three big parties in a little over a month (The Sleepover, The Baptism Party, and The Hockey Party), I was ready to keep it simple.

We invited our immediate family and a couple of close friends over to a mid-afternoon party.  To keep things easy, we only served cake, ice cream, and soft drinks.  I made my son an adorable diaper cover and necktie to wear.  The highlight of the party was his Smash Cake.  He looked absolutely adorable, and the Smash Cake was every bit as fun as you would hope for it to be.  I also made a really simple matching fabric bunting that hung as a backdrop for the photos.

If you are planning a fabulous birthday celebration of your own and would like to order a diaper cover, necktie or bunting for that perfect touch, please contact me for a quote.

He wasn’t quite sure what to think about the smash cake.  After all, he had never tasted processed sugar before.

It didn’t take long for him to decide that it was pretty darn good.  Yay!

One Sheet So Many Possibilities!

One Sheet So Many Possibilities!

I have come across several pins for what they call “One Sheet Wonders” or “OSW”.  I’m intrigued!  How can you make so many cards out of one beautiful piece of paper?  It also allows me to feel much less guilty about cutting up some of my pretty Close To My Heart Paper.

So I decided to take the plunge and give it a try.  This post is going to be in a couple of parts because I’m a busy working mama and I can’t seem to sit down long enough to get all of my cards done at once!

Selection of Birthday Cards

They were actually really easy to put together.  One of my secrets to getting them put together so quickly is that I started with some pretty card blanks as a base.  They are relatively inexpensive and come with the envelopes ready to go.

There are a ton of pins out there on Pinterest but after searching a ton of them, this is the one I ended up getting my template from.  I modified

So here are my first two cards.  What do you think?

By the way…I already ended up using both of these!!  Beautiful cards go quickly!

I’ve finally managed to get two more done.  I love how they turned out.  What do you think?
