So most of you know we are rounding out our first year with our youngest of three. It’s surreal to think that in less than a month our sweet baby boy will be a year old!
As of mom of three there are some things that I did for our oldest or midde that I’ve let go on number three. Making all of his baby food from scratch IS NOT one of them! It is so simple and inexpensive I have a hard time believing that not everyone does this! There is something so gratifying about getting to choose his foods and seeing every step of the process of turning them into a delicious meal.

One thing I did do differently this time around was I invested in an Infantino Food Station. This has made the whole experience SO much easier and even more convenient than ever before! I use it all the time and wonder what I ever did without it!
It does help having a chef for a husband. He is a whiz at chopping up all of the fruits and vegetables and does a much better and faster job than I ever could but I’ve done it all on my own many times and can certainly manage.
We waited until our son was nearly 6 months old to start purees. I recommend you decide what works for you. We started our daughter when she was only 4 months and our middle at 5 months. I think 4 months may have been just a bit too soon but overall I don’t think it made much of a difference.
Let’s take a look at what the menu for our 6 month old looked like:
We made purees of each of the following: Apples, pears, carrots, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, blueberries, beets, broccoli, red bell peppers, parsnips, celery root, cauliflower, banana, avocado…the list keeps growing! Such a good eater! 🍌🍎🍐
Look at all of this awesome produce! I love that all of this is about to become my little ones first foods.

This is how we prepped everything:
- Peel the fruit/vegetable (if needed)
- Chop into small cubes
- Steam for 15-25 minutes depending on the thickness.
- Blend – Our Ninja Master Prep worked perfect for this!
- Pass through a strainer (we stopped doing this when get got a bit older and could handle chunkier food
- Allow the purée to cool
- Package your food for storage and easy serving.
You have lots of options for storing the purees. As a busy mom, my focus is always towards planning ahead to make meal time easy. It doesn’t have to be complicated – you can put the purees in ice cube trays, freeze them and then transfer them into freezer bags and just pull out one at a time. I also found it so convenient to store larger portions of purees in vacuum-sealed food storage bags I created with my FoodSaver. I usually cut one or two open at a time and use them to mix up a delicious puree combo.
The game changer this time around really was the Infantino Fresh Squeeze Station. You know those REALLY expensive food pouches that all of the store bought baby food comes in these days? They are SO expensive but they are convenient! Imagine being able to take advantage of that convenience at a fraction of the cost and knowing EXACTLY what is in your baby’s food. The station lets you fill the pouches with your own purees and recipes. They freeze great and are perfect for taking on the go.
Look at all of this amazing food that we made for our little guy in just a few hours. This stash lasted us at least a month.
